Holiday in France with allergies to dairy and egg

Hi, wondered if anyone could help. We are goping to France, staying with friends and our DS has allergies to diary and egg foods.

Does anyone know where I can find out what ingredients are in baguettes ie do they tend to have a egg glaze, or contain milk powder or butter?

I would ask in the bakers if I were you as there wil no doubt be variations from place to place. Is your French up to it?

IME French bakers and patisseries are lovely. When we went to get our morning bread and croissants when we in Ile De Re they used to give the children bits of bread and treats. Really friendly.

Baguettes are fine. Croissants / pain au chocolat obviously not as they have butter content. Brioche is a no-no as well.

DD1 also has dairy and egg allergies and we go to France regularly. I would advise taking your own soya spread or whatever replacement you use as it is hard to find in France.

am asking a friend to tell me how to say in French things like 'my son has allergies.... and does this food contain..'.

thanks for the tip re: soya spread. can we carry the spread onto the plane? not sure if it would be allowed on.

A small coolbag in your luggage would do the trick. Usually lasts the journey ok for us.

Good idea if you get your friend to write down allergy-related phrases for you. If they have any trouble, let me know, I am half French and also used to asking when in France!
