CMPA or something else?!

Help! Our 8 week old has been put on Nutramigen as we suspect he might have a CMPA. He's been on it for 1.5wks now and straight after first few days he completely changed..became less restless and didn't look like he was in
pain anymore and I was convinced it's CMPA but not sure anymore...

In the last few days he's become increasingly restless again. Daytimes are fine, he happily sleeps good few hours in the pram outside without any problems. Wakes up for a feed and maybe a play and goes back to sleep. He does sleep a lot during the day so not sure if this affects..? As at nights he is awake for two three hours at one go and screams, arches his back, pulls his knees up, pushes the bottle away but screams straight away and wants it back. It's like a vicious circle. Nothing helps. It's very hard to wind him so that doesn't help either. He also has extremely restless limbs especially at nights and he almost wakes himself up by moving so much.

He hasn't been throwing up until yesterday when he projectile vomited all his milk on my husband and today it's happened at least three times.

Wouldn't think its reflux as he's fine sleeping on his back especially at day time. No problems at all.

Oh and he keeps smacking/licking his lips all the time like there was something bothering him in his mouth.

Any ideas what it could be if it's not CMPA? Feel very helpless as can't help my little man.

Thanks.

I haven’t got experience of a baby with Cmpa.but I’ve read on the forums that some babies needs to move onto a completely milk free formula. Is he under a Paed?

Anyway, this will bump for you and yiu May get someone come along with experience 🙂

Which Nutramigen is he on? There are two kinds, I think it’s called Lipil 1 which still has cows milk protein in but it is very broken down and then Puramino which has no milk at all and is made with amino acids. My dd settled on the Lipil 1 initially but, like your ds, started screeching again after around a week so was put on Puramino which worked perfectly.

Your ds also may have acid reflux from the sounds of it (it’s often a symptom of cmpa). My dd also had this and was put on omeprazole which is a miracle drug (infant Gavin com and ranitidine didn’t do anything for her at all). She was like a different child once on the correct milk and meds. Take him back to the doctor and see what they suggest. Good luck.

*infant gaviscon not Gavin com!

He's not under paed. saying that he's got an appointment with one on Thursday but that's to check a possible heart murmur. But will talk to him/her about this as well.

He's on Nutramigen 1 with LGG so yes you might be right maybe he needs the 100% milk free version as this isn't one.

Will definitely ask about the omeprazole on Thursday as have heard about it before as well. Is that for the acid reflux? The same here, baby gaviscon and ranitidine did absolutely nothing. I'm almost convinced the gaviscon made him worse, definitely not better.

It's 03.08am and just got the little man back to his bed and (shouldn't say this - I'll jinx it!!!) can't believe but he went down like a dream, same earlier around 11pm. First time it took max 30mins and now around an hour (think this isn't like a dream for many 😆). Would have been quicker but was too afraid to put him down thinking he's going to wake up and scream as normal.
At first feed no fussiness at all and now only minimal amount. Yay!!!

Thank you both! 😊
