tomato allergy?

oh heck. dd2 has now got a massive rash round her mouth, chin and cheeks after dinner. this has been mild before after eating this one meal but i am now almost sure its tomato allergy. this is the only meal she eats that has tomato in it (pasta, meatballs in a tomato sauce). she doesnt t5opuch tomatoes at any other time.

It sounds like you might be right there....tomato allergy seems quite common as I know of a few people affected like this, but I don't think there's any risk of an extreme reaction like peanuts causing anaphylactic shock. You'd better get her referred to the allergy clinic though to make sure.

I used to have a tomato allergy, just as you describe, rash round my mouth. I think peppers may also cause it.

I grew out of it. I dont have any anaphylactic allergies - I think it is OK, but but would probably get her tested if possible.

those pictures look like it gets very sore. dd2 tongue is fine.

Tomatoes are very common in triggering geographic tongue and burning mouth syndrome.

I strangley can eat tomatoes with no problem, however if I chop loads of them and get juice on my hands they itch like crazy.

Can do Fio. It is often triggered by spicy or acidic foods.

Other suspected triggers are alcohol and stress.

Add I have seen some improvement in some patients when they switch to a less minty toothpaste as well. Also some evidence to link it to anaemia (some women find it is linked to there cycle so hormones could be considered)
