Oh, bugger

I can still eat strawberries (I think - will have to try this summer), but black cherries and pears got me last year

It's shit, isn't it? I love fruit and can't eat as much as I want to!

PeachyChocolateEClair · 15/04/2007 18:56

Pears??/ Are you sure? As theya re supposed to be one of the two foodstuffs it is impossible to react to - are you sure they weren't sprayed or anything?

I also have eczma / arthritis as well, fortunately just in my knee / toes / fingers at present, as I also have a back problem which caused me to lose the ability to walk for 3 months in my twenties (scar tissue on some discs, when infamed the fluid cant move).

Sound like I'm falling apart! I so am not! far healtheir than at 20- can run now, for example, and walk up the hill to Uni every day.

hunkermunker · 15/04/2007 18:57

Yes, definitely pears. Organic ones... [ponce]

What's the other non-reactive foodstuff, Peachy? Say baby rice and I'll beat you over the head

PeachyChocolateEClair · 15/04/2007 19:25

My allergy to apples doesn't cause problems in my mouth, like gum swelling or lips or anything. Its just a feeling like my stomach is about to burst alien-like, then I get a migraine with distorted vision. Then I throw up but am left with pounding headache for rest of day.

PeachyChocolateEClair · 16/04/2007 12:34

Just interested but

apples
peaches
nectarines
plums
cherries sometimes
pears sometimes
tomatoes if green or v firm red ones

and lots of other things here all contain salycylates, a chemical DS1 largely steers clear of as it aggravates his ADHD like behaviours (he isn't ADHD). Its a common alternative diet for ADHD kids.

I wonder if thats the link......

porolli · 16/04/2007 16:57

am really relieved that someone has that gum thing when biting an apple! my dh always laughs when i prissily cut up apples into tiny pieces and insert into my mouth with a fork!
apart from itchy-mouth-apple I have a more serious problem with kiwis and cherries and a latex allergy. also an anaphylactic type allergy to all fish...

fatcatkin · 16/04/2007 17:05

Glad it's not just me then!!

I developed a kiwi allergy very suddenly about 12 years ago on a cross channel ferry after eating the kiwi that came with my lunch! I get the swelling up of tongue, lips and mouth and then my tongue blisters.

I've had similar reactions to cherry tomatoes in the past although seem to be OK with them now which is weird.

Also have had issues with latex- We use latex gloves at work and they're usually OK but if I have cuts on my hands then I get a reaction. Won't go into what happens with condoms...

I get early in the year hayfever which I have come to the conclusion is probably birth.
I have had the lips swelling, itchy mouth with persimmon (sharon fruit) and plaintains and after that couldn't eat underripe bananas for a few weeks although seem okay now.

christywhisty · 16/04/2007 18:02

that should read "Birch" not "birth"

paulaplumpbottom · 16/04/2007 18:10

Pineapple and kiwiw do this to me and I never thought anything of it. I guess I won't have anymore.

Something strange happened to me at the spa on Wed. After my manicure I was getting a hand massage when my arm (only one of them) started to get a rash and quickly started to feel like it was on fire. It was only on the one arm. It went away within the hour but it was very uncomftorable.

Are you all forgetting to peel the skin off?

paulaplumpbottom · 16/04/2007 18:13

no skin on mine
