16 wo temporary lactose intolerance after tummy bug?

Hi all,

Looking for some guidance - my 16 wo LO had a bout of diarrhoea last week and since then has been off his feeds - literally half of what he normally has in 24 hours. He also refuses to be held when fed. Today he woke up with very dry, scaly skin all over his legs.

I spoke to my HV and she suggested that it may be temporary lactose intolerance. Apparently this is common after a tummy bug in babies of this age. I've never come across this before, have you?

It can happen. Did she suggest trying a Lactose free formula or are you Bfing?

I had this after a severe stomach bug last year but I am in my 40's ..I had never heard of it before.

It would only give dodgy Poo not bad skin though a reaction to cows milk proteins could do both

DS had temp lactose intolerance after bad tummy bug when he was about 8 months old. D&V but the D just kept on coming. Stopped as soon as we went into soya formula. Stayed off it for a month or two.

Hi - thanks for sharing/advising. GP said that the skin complaint wasn't related and to give it another few days. He's got his appetite back but skin still very dry in patches...
