Delayed allergy to a dog?

So, my OH is allergic to some animals. We are looking to get a dog and went to visit a breeder tonight. OH had 5 puppies and 2 full grown mini dachshunds climbing him and licking him for about an hour. He was a little bit sniffly towards the end but that's it... until now.
3 hours later his eyes are red and swollen. Is there such a thing as a delayed allergic reaction? When he was around my dads dog, within minutes, he'd be sneezing, runny eyes and nose, itchy throat

All dogs produce the protein that cause the reaction. Whether delayed or not, I think it's quite clear your DH is allergic to dogs. Best look for a different pet.
