Is this a strawberry allergy?

DS is 18 mths and when he was around 7 months I gave him some strawberry. I turned my head for a second and when I turned back he'd been sick. I stopped giving strawberries just in case. I decided to try again yesterday. I chopped up a strawberry and put it in his weetabix. The first spoonful made him gag after barely a second. He now has a red rash round his mouth. Just wondered if anyone else had experience this and what I should do. TIA

It does sound like a strawberry allergy. I wouldn't give him strawverries again.

Hiya,

I am actually allergic to strawberries, which started when I was very young.

Symptoms I get, swelling of mouth/tongue and a measle like rash over my body...

Any help?

Should I take him to the doctor to confirm it? He's fine with organic strawberry yoghurts

I think, that if you are concerned, it maybe an idea...

If not, then maybe steer clear of the strawberries for a while...

Me, IMHO, I would probably just have it check out...

Hi Smiling, DS tried an organic strawberry yoghurt when he was about 9 months old. Within about 3 minutes he developed a red rash on his face. It didn't bother him, but them his ezcema flared up that day(he had raw sores for first year anyway). I have since completely avoided strawberries.
Roll on April 2007 - he tried real strawberries for the first time ever this weekend as I was there to monitor him and he's very very happy. No rash, ezcema.

Good luck!

Hi cheechy - how long ago did you first give him the yoghurt when he was 9 mths? How old is he now?

Hi Smiling, DS had the yoghurt in November 2005. He's now just over two years old. He's turned into such a strong little boy, plus he has completely grown out of the terrible ezcema he had in his first year. I used to cry over his little sore body...

So, I decided to try a strawberry because his skin is completely clear. I would then be able to immediately see the effect, if any.

And hurrah - he's absolutely fine.
