Advice re eczema

Hi all. My DS (2 years 10 months) has usually mild eczema. Occasionally he has a bit of a flare up (usually tummy, chest, back, sides), but we mange with aveeno and the occasionally use of a steroid cream. It flared up on Christmas Eve and had been fairly bad since. It's waking him up at night as every time he wakes he is scratching lots, and complaining about it.

I might head back to the doctors, but wondered if there were any tips of things which might help.

Do you do oat baths? Coconut oil in the bath keeps my dd' under control. I'd also rinse all his clothes a lot to make sure there isn't any powder build up

My DD had this until age 3. It was awful at times, could never put her in a dress in summer as she would make her legs bleed. I used surecare detergent for washing clothes for a few years, no perfume or colours etc. and loads of E45. Went away completely thank goodness by age 3/4.

Have you tried changing your laundry detergent? I've switched to an eco egg and it makes a huge difference to my own eczema. I got it on amazon, it gas literally changed my life! (and it's better for the environment AND saves money)

Non bio wash powder , bath only every other day wash the other , steer away from the pharmaceuticals they thin the skin, coconut oil , olive oil (pure) or any other natural products . There are also some sachets you can get which help balance probiotics in the gut which can cause eczema in children , they are natural too. My daughter had eczema and her father wanted me to use steroid creams but I refused and it improved doing the above . She rarely suffers now but swimming does set it off .

I'm just recovering from a massive flare up that began December 2015, is he asthmatic at all? I also had allergy tests and found out I'm allergic to a lot, do you have central heating or mould etc?Definitely coconut oil though, I find it soothes the sting after putting steroids on, soothes the itch and sort of lubricates the skin so my nails don't do as much damage in my sleep. A greasy ointment and cotton pyjamas at night and a good cream in the day, applied in a stroking motion rather than a rubbing one.

Moisturise everyday! Only shower when there is actually a need, everyday is overkill and bad for the environment not just the skin barrier. Use dead sea salts, ever notice how skin magically clears up when you're on holiday by the beach? It's the minerals in the sea air. Make a spray out of dead sea salt and water and apply it the eczema as much as possible. Eczema = gone in two weeks tops of you do all of this.
