DS is almost 4. From birth he's suffered with a dairy allergy and soya intolerance and when weaning time arrived, it transpired that he is allergic to legumes (peas, beans, lentils, chickpeas etc), eggs, fish, nuts, dog/cats (this is a contact allergy), avocado. He has an epipen for these.
Alongside the food allergies he suffers with moderate eczema and asthma. He requires creaming several times a day, antihistamine administering 3 times a day and an inhaler twice a day. He's a nightmare at bedtime as he's so hyper from steroids and often takes several hours to settle.
The food allergy element is the biggest drain both mentally and financially. It's heartbreaking when he can't have something at a party that all the other boys and girls are having and it's stressful being constantly on edge wondering if you'll be dashing for the epipen.
I even had to change my job as a project manager from working during the day as we felt he wasn't as safe as he could be at nursery. He was fed food he was allergic to. I now waitress in the evenings and at weekends when his dad is home to care for him and our DD.
Our HV mentioned applying for DLA to help our family financially (we don't claim any other benefits other than child benefits) and I put an application in around 4 weeks ago.
I got the decision this morning and they've rejected the claim saying that DS doesn't need additional care above that of his peers. Has anyone else claimed and had a rejection or been successful?
TIA.
