Wasp sting

Does anyone know how long wasp stings hurt for in general? I was stung several times by a wasp this morning on my ankle, and had a massive panic attack, as I have a phobia of wasps. I was already on my way to my GP surgery to collect a prescription, so I saw the practice nurse who said I wasnt allergic and it was my panic attack that was making me feel dizzy and tingly. My dad is allergic to wasp stings, but apparently it's not the first sting that you react to, but future stings. I was given Piriton, which I have taken.

My husband reckons a wasp sting only hurts for about an hour, but it's as painful now as it was when it happened, at 9.30am. It's not swollen or hot, so I know I'm not having a bad reaction to it, but is it normal to hurt for so long?

Ive had them in the past that did hurt for a good while after. The last one I had, I got wasp-eze onto it pronto and that really did the trick.

I would advise you to get some, it makes stings a lot less horrible.

In my case first they became very very hurty for a very long time. Like a couple of days. Then the next few times some quite alarming swelling happened.

And then one bastard got my hand and my forehead in a three pronged attack of evil.

One minute I was on MN complaining bitterly about horrible hurty wasps and the relative merits of peeing on my hand in the hope of relief, the next I was hightailing it to the out of hours clinic cos my face went all elephant man.

And then the doc stuck a massive needle in my arse, Which also hurt. A lot.

So I would keep an eye on your stings. Might be nothing, but if you get stung again watch out for an increase in over reactions.

Oh and PS... the peeing on your stings things does not work. So buy that stuff the other poster mentioned instead. It will cost money, but not your dignity.

I got stung at lunch time this year, was still hurting that night. By the next morning it was fine. Wasp stings take a good few hours to go away. Must admit it was my first time and I got myself a bit anxious about it too.

I was stung just once this time last year. Took about 6 weeks to stop hurting! My dad's allergic to wasps so I've always been a bit paranoid but I'm even more so now! Keep taking the antihistamines!

Thanks everyone. It's still noticeable but much better today. I got the wasp eze and have been taking the Piriton so I think I will be fine. The evil little stripey bastards.
