Could this be Asthma?

My ds (2.10) is allergic to egg, dairy and nuts and had excema head to toe for first year of life until allergies were discovered to be cause. However just before Christmas he had a breathing problem (wheezing) I rushed him to docs who called amulance where he was seen by doctors and given all clear. However they did issue me with an inhaler and spacer "just in case" it were to happen again. It did on Thursday and again on Saturday both times at the end of the day. I used the inhaler (not me, my ds!) and he was fine after two puffs. He has had a very bad cold (haven't they all!) but rather than taking things easy he is still rushing around like a maniac and it is then that this happens and/or sudden and drastic changes in temperature. He is fine when he doesn't have a cold and when he is at home. It is just when he has colds and is around other peoples homes. Any ideas/reassurances/experiences of similar?

Sorry, just to add he was given Salbutamol Sulphate - 100 micrograms per dose? To be used as needed? Help??

my ds reacts to changes in temparature and going to other people's houses - here it tends to be cos they have the heating on full, no windows open so air is musty etc.

He can be fine one minute then wheezing the next.

when youknow you're going to be in a 'trigger' situation, give him 2 puffs of the salbutamol beforhand to help avoid an attack.

Thanks - so is it Asthma? Does it get worse? They wouldn't say either way at the hospital, and previous to that doctor has said no he does not have asthma. Am getting very confused.

You could be describing my ds (allergies etc) and he is asthmatic. It does sound like it to me. DS was diagnosed about your ds's age. Even though DS has countless allergies it is viral infections that send him off. I have only recently been sent to asthma clinic and for he first time in ages I feel in control.

GP's can often give you different view points, diagnosis and treatment. GP's and asthma nurses aren't a patch on what I have available now. Find out if you have an asthma clinic in your local hosp and ask for a referral.

One diagnosis I herd is that if the salbutamol works then it is almost certainly asthma.

oh dear - the salbutamol works. Poor chap, am off to bed now to beat myself up with "mummy guilt". Thanks for your replies. I just hope he can grow out of all this. He does cope so well though. Has now started calling this spacer thing a "nifter"!!
