Is rice gluten free?

I have a friend coming for dinner who has requested gluten free. Happy to cook gluten free but want to know whether rice is OK - specifically basmati rice.

By the way I would ask her but it's a tad early for her so thought I'd ask here.

I eat gluten free, and I'm happy to eat rice.

Just check the packaging, but you should be fine.

Yes, rice is absolutely fine if you're cooking it from scratch - however, if you're cooking it in stock rather than water then bear in mind that most stock cubes aren't gluten free.

Also even if you think the rest of the meal is fine, watch out for seasonings like malt vinegar and soy sauce, because those tend to have gluten in too.

Rest of meal is chicken and spices so should be fine.

Thanks - dinner is sorted.
