Immunotherapy for grass allergy

My son has severe rhinitis and symptoms of air pollen allergies. He is allergic to tree, grass and pet dander. He is taking the maximum medication available to him but is suffering badly again this summer. He has had surgery on his nose to help his airway and we have been referred again to the ENT surgeons this summer to see if there's anything more they can do for him. We have been put on the list for immunotherapy for grass pollen.
Has anyone got any experience of the treatment? Has anyone's child done it? What have been the results and possible side effects?
thanks.
