Hi

My 7 week old has been diagnosed with reflux by gp and is waiting to see pediatrician. My feeling is that he is allergic to cows milk and this is causing his reflux. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Is the hospital likely to try eliminating cows milk or will they just try to treat his reflux symptoms.

Hi Cazzy2,

My ds was eventually diagnosed with milk allergy but it was me that thought of it not the hospital. He certainly wasn't even examined for just reflux as this appears to be considered normal these days (I reckon all doctors have shares in baby gaviscon). Best advice I can give is make sure you are seeing a dietician if you think there is a problem, my son had other symptoms though like acute pain at night, rectal bleeding and eventually large scale bleeding. He also had eczema.

Hi Waps

Thank you for the advice. I think I was referred to the hospital because his symptoms are mainly constant crying due to pain and he swallows alot. He is sick sometimes but not enough to not be gaining weight. He also has noisy breathing at times as if it is on his chest and sometimes sounds as if his throat is soar. There is no blood loss but his face is quite dry with few red spots which are not that noticeable not sure if this could be mild eczema or not.
I think it could be down to the milk because he had what we thought were colic like symptoms from 2 weeks old and has now developed reflux.
