adult allergies/ intolerance

I'm definitely intolerant to milk and cheese, but thought I was ok with goats cheese. However the last 2 times I have had it, within 1 hour I have become v itchy, sinuses have blocked up, and the following morning my whole face has swollen. I think it must be that, but not sure as I did have other foods that could have caused it. I know allergy testing is quite limited, and there aren't any tests for intolerance, but has anyone had a good result from testing, or am I just going to have to keep a diary and try and work out what it could be?

I had similar issues with my sinuses.

It was triggered after my pregnancies when I was so sick I lived off tomato soup and cheese for months.

Anyway, I did the York Test which showed I was intolerant to 10 foods. Cheese was right up there. But cutting all those foods out was utterly impractical.

I saw a naturopath when I became desperate and sinus surgery was on the cards. She gave me some herbs, I took slippery elm (healing herb), cut out wheat and gluten and dairy. And I began to heal. Sinuses improved very slowly.

I eventually could cope with butter and goats cheese again. Sinuses were near normal.

Then I fell pregnant again! And I'm back to square one.

I wouldn't bother with expensive allergy tests. Naturopath said they often show multiple problems and you are better to try to heal your tummy.

Hope this helps a bit!

I would also add that refined sugar is a huge trigger for my sinuses....

MadauntofA · 06/03/2016 07:35

Thanks Rooner. I have cut out most refined sugar for health reasons, but was allowing myself a slice of cake at the weekend and actually had some yesterday - I hadn't thought of that possible connection! Did you cut out all wheat and dairy, and for how long?

Yes I did. Apart from butter. I am zero gluten now. Totally used to it.

Because my sinuses are buggered again - after my pregnancy - I'm back trying to heal so no dairy or wheat or refined sugar. I hope to get back to goats cheese again and butter!

Thanks. I think I need to look at what I am eating in more detail. I hope you manage to heal quickly.

Thanks.

The ENT consultant was fast tracking me for surgery - with no long term guarantee of success. I uttered - "what about food allergies"?

"Oh you don't want to bother yourself with that nonsense" was his airy reply.

I never booked in for the surgery and never contacted him again. The naturopath cost me £40 and was fab.

yes, exclusion diets work. don't need to pay a naturopath to do that.

eat other forms of calcium rich foods and cut out milk.

go to gp and ask for ige blood tests just in case ige related rather than intolerance.
