DD had a reaction to amoxcilyn, what do I need to know apart from informing the school?

make sure his medical notes state the reaction to prevent further probs when needing an anti biotic

Yes let GP know so it can be known for the future. Was it a severe reaction? Sometimes GPs will only list true allergies in the notes.

I'm allergic to it because of the penicillin in it. Could that be a case with your dd? If it is it should go in her notes.

I get a rash whenever I have amoxycillin (or however it's spelled) and one other penicillin-related antibiotic and have been told to always say that I'm allergic to penicillin. Apparently being sensitive to one of the group doesn't necessarily mean you are allergic to penicillin, but the chance increases if you react to more than one of them, and, as the doctor said, "Who wants to find out that way?!"

Thanks I will make sure GP has been informed, as it was pescribed by A&E. She had a nasty rash that was worse at night and covered her head to toe but faded in the morning. No high temp or trouble breathing. Doctor said it was strange that it was worse at night.

She had the rash for 3/4 nights after having only 2 doses. She has had it in the past with no problems at all. Dr. wasn't 100% sure it was the amoxcilyn but could find no other cause.

Sounds like she is very sensitive to penicillin meds. You can often react to the second dose rather than the first ansd therefore if the second dose had been before bedtime that would've been why. Its quite common to get a skin reaction. As suggested I would just remind the GP everytime your child need antibiotics.

Hi Skribble.

I'm allergic to it too. It is the penicillin in it. I got a rash. Once my dentist asked if i was ok with penicillin and i said i got a mild rash - he said that's because you had a small dose. A big dose could kill you. EEK.

So....always ensure he is never given penicillin based meds. Make sure the school know.

You can buy a pendant with allergy info in but he might not want to wear that. I dont.

Hi, DS is also allergic to Amoxycillin, he got a bad rash first time he had it. He has had to have Antibiotics a few times since and I have had to mention it each time at the doctors and they gave him Erythromycin instead and that has been brilliant.
