Possible dairy intolerance- advice needed please!

Sorry all this is a long one but want to give the background!

My dd 16mo had a bug last week- high temp for 2 days 39-40 degrees followed by a night of a low temp 35 degrees and cold sweats. Saw 2 GPs who checked her ears etc and one advised possible rotavirus. Sent a sample off to be tested but that came back clear.

We didn't have any vomiting but since the bug started we're having lots of loose nappies every day. She's usually a 1-2 poos a day girl but we're on 6-8 now. Only small ones but she's doing a poo in the night. She hasn't done this since 4mo!

She's never really suffered with nappy rash but now she's starting with it. Her bum is very red and sore all over.
Tried her dairy for 3 days and that made no difference. The nappies do have a teething smell to them. It's not diarrhea but more just very loose nappies. She's eating and drinking everything ok though.

Does this sound like a possible dairy intolerance? The GP hasn't seen her but didn't think it was toddler diarrhea and more like a transient lactose intolerance from the bug. She's done 5 loose nappies at nursery today and they said she seems to have tummy pain before she does a poo.

I'm at my wits end with this and have no idea what to do? Has anyone experienced similar and have you got any advice?

I think it's common to develop tempory lactose intolerence after a stomach bug- that's how I became lactose intolerent.

OP do you have any updates? My 13 month old is in an identical situation & we are trying lactose free for 3 weeks. I'd be sad if it were permanent though - we are a diary loving family.
