Shampoo to use 10 months old with very dry scalp

Hi, my DS gets a very dry scalp every time we try to wash his hair. He is getting a lot of hair now, so we can't get away with not washing it anymore and everything we try makes it really dry.

Have tried Boots own sensitive stuff and Simples Baby stuff. Has anyone got any good tips?

Is it like cradle cap? Olive oil is good for that. Or perhaps even if it isn't cradle cap, putting some oil on your DS's scalp overnight and washing it off in the morning may improve it?

Can you just use plain water? We didn't use shampoo for ages on ds.

We didn't use shampoo on ds for ages either just water is fine and cleared my ds's cradle cap up.

I use Dentinox on both my ds's (4 and othr 3months) Baby has bad eczema too and it seems to really help them and leaves them dmelling fresh and clean.

No, it looks dry and almost flaky.
I have tried olive oil and I used to use it when he was little, but now when I wash it off the scalp goes dry so not sure if it does anything.

I have used Infaderm on ds and myself sometimes as I have exzcema. It is very mild. Its about £4-5 a bottle though. The range covers shampoo and body wash.
If it is really bad I would just use water too!

archiesmummy · 10/11/2006 13:29

Thanxall. Just out of curiosity do you use bodywash or just water there as well?

My GP prescribed dd OILATUM Junior Bath Formula which helped her dry skin - £8.99/bottle but free on prescription

just water is fine but my daughter had VERY severe eczema and we used DERMOL products which were prescribed by the dermatologist. You can get them via your GP. I found oilatum and nearly all of the other well known brands caused a reaction but thes erae lovely and she still uses them 5 years later! There's awhole range which are great. Good luck - you need to try different things that work for you.

Have you got a health shop near you? There's quite a few skin friendly shampoos etc. We use JASON which is an organic, natural shampoo. The staff in health shops are usually really informative so will know the range the stock well, it might be worth a visit?

Big brands like Johnsons, simple etc are not as baby skin friendly as they may seem.

We used a coconut oil shampoo on DD. It was just a boots own brand. My hairdresser suggested we use something like that as she said the baby brand ones with no more tear formulas are too harsh for babies. Think she said they actually cause most of the problems you are trying to get rid of, like craddle cap.
