Hi, I wondered if any of u could help me, does this sound familiar- My almost 3yo has suffered with what we think is constipation for past 7 months. It actually started when we began potty training him, he didn't like it&since then has been 'holding it in' for days at a time. We thought it was a phase so didn't cut anything out of his diet til a couple of months ago. I try to avoid wheat&we don't have much dairy. Anyway I noticed he started to (instinctively) avoid wheat, so didn't have much. He regularly complained of 'tummy hurting' and 'bum hurting'. So 2months ago he was constipated for nearly 3weeks. The impaction was so painful for him, he often jumpted from foot to foot whining, and in his sleep too. An enema helped clear him out. After that we strictly gave him no wheat and only tiny bit of dairy, and for first time in 5months he had regular bowel movements&no pains, until he had a dairy choc egg then after that pains and constipation again. I'm not entirely sure if it is constipation, or what. Sometimes he passes stool that is not hard and he still screams. There are no fissures, 2 doctors have confirmed this. Can intolherances cause colon, or that area to be inflamed etc? I am baffled, but thinking it probably is dairy intolherance. Today he had gf biscuit with bit of dairy choc on it (total accident, thought was df+gf) and again saying tummy+bum hurting. I don't understand why a bit of chocolate, if this is the case of what is causing bum/tummy pains can suddenly happen, as he has always been fine. Doctors are baffled too. He is on waiting list for paediatric. Sorry I'm new to this, and sorry for long post! Just feel helpless and cluless. Any advice and suggestions muchly appreciated. X

I have a ds now teen who is outright allergic to all things cow, and a second who's cmpi, severely so but thankfully not allergic. They both are the absolute opposite symptom wise to what you describe, they treat it as food poisoning and have D&V, runny nose and typically allergic symptoms..never constipation.
We removed dairy with huge amounts of supervision and medical advice re substitution, so please make sure you get advice and testing before you remove a whole food group from your child's diet.
