Allergic reaction to cream cheese and sour cream? Anyone experienced this?

DD aged 18 months is severely allergic to egg (diagnosed last October) and I suspect cashew nuts after reacting to a fruit bar containing some. We are due back at the allergy clinic later this month for further testing.

Nursery are very robust in dealing with this and I'm confident she is never offered anything at all containing egg/nuts.

On collecting her shortly after tea time last week she was very distressed and her face had gone red, lots if hives on her arms etc so appeared to be in the midst of a reaction. I spoke with staff and it transpires she had cream cheese bagels for tea - I thought it unlikely she would react to this as she drinks cows milk with no problems.

Here's the thing - I stirred a blob of sour cream into her chilli con crane yesterday evening and exactly the same thing happened, only worse (projective vomiting within minutes, hives, red face). She's fine now after piriton and lots of tlc bless her.

So can you be allergic to some dairy but be fine with milk? I have done a bit of reading and get the impression you can be allergic to these kind of products due to the high levels of histamine found in them - does that sound feasible? Or is it some kind of intolerance?

If anyone can shed any light if be grateful!

With that type of reaction, I would go with an allergy and have the hospital check when you have your next appointment. The reaction could get worse with each introduction of the food so hold off till the appointment. You could take the brand you used as some brands of products have more cross contamination than others.

My son just recently had a reaction to carrots. He is 8 and just growing out of his allergies (introduced this year eggs, dairy and oats). No idea what is happening but trust your instincts.

I can have milk, butter, cream and yogurt... If I eat cheese I have an anaphylactic reaction and need epi, hospital and normally time in the ICU. Its perfectly possible, if a little unusual, to be allergic to a subset of a food group.

Were the bagels definitely egg free? My daughter had an egg allergy and began reacting once to a bagel. It turned out to have egg wash on it, now I always check and they often though not always do.
