Dairy Free "Cheese"

Has anyone found any dairy free cheese or cheese style speads that don't contain hydrogenated fats? I'd be really grateful for any responses but may not be back on line tonight (DS not sleeping & only mummy will do!!)

dairy free or cows milk protein free?

I found DD was okay with sheeps milk cheese - which actually tastes nice - unlike any of that soya based cack.

Soya cheese really does taste like vomit, let alone what may actually be in it. Sorry.

dairy free - DS (9mths) can't do cow or goat (I always assumed that would mean sheep too...good point VVV - thanks )

All the soya stuff I've tried so far is vile and is mainly hydrogenated fats which I really want to avoid, as I do for the rest of the family. The reason I ask is that I really want to get more variation in his diet. He can't do wheat or tomatoes either and I'm finding the limitations of this a total PITA. It may be that they just don't make it - and also maybe I should give the sheeps cheese a go to see if he reacts.

I've got some recipes for dairy free Cheeze (as they call it). Will dig them out for you if you like. I've tried a few, mostly they're more like vegetarian pate than hard cheese, but they're very tasty and nutrituios. There may be some harder ones that I haven't tried in the book.

PrettyCandles - Thank you - that would be great!!!

My dd2 8yrs has dairy (cow and goat) allergy but can completely cope with ewe's milk cheese like VVVQV's dd.

My dd loves Manchego which is Spanish, yellow and mature. Lovely. Tesco's, Waitrose and Deli's sell it. Dead easy to use on pizzas, fish pie and anything we are eating. Yummy.

Also can eat Osseau Iraty but its a bit sour she finds, like Feta. Also in all the shops.
Soya was a miss in our house am afraid.

Must point out that I cant vouch for traces of cow in these as she does not have anaphylaxsis.

If your DS likes sheeps cheese, try feta spread (from Waitrose) - like Philly only made from sheeps feta. My DS would eat this when all else failed! Also, pecorino cheese (tastes like parmesan) is sheep's cheese, so usedful for making cheese sauce/on pizza/for cauli cheese.
