Will be thinking of you. Can only imagine how exciting/scary that will be. Have always thought milk would be one of the hardest to avoid given it is in almost everything.

Fingers firmly crossed for a positive (or should I actually say negative!) result. Is your ds excited about it? My dd is 9, and like your ds, has been anaphylactic to cows milk all her life. Sadly never had any reduction in the massive skin prick reaction she gets so no challenge yet on the horizon for us but I can well imagine the mixture of anticipation and anxiety she would feel if she ever got to the challenge phase!
I must also confess to being quite excited to hear that your ds looks to be outgrowing the anaphylaxis - I had personally given up all hope but am once again seeing the signs of a potential light on that dim, distant horizon!! Out of interest, how far reduced was the skin prick test from his previous results to make them recommend a challenge?

Good luck!! I will certainly be thinking about you and your ds and please, please let us know how it goes!!

Thought I would join in on this thread. I have an 8 month old DS who had a horrendous anaphylactic attack/reaction to cows milk 2 months ago. I am still BFing so it was only when we gave him baby yoghurt that it came to light. We are waiting for a date for his challenge and I don't mind saying I am absolutely terrified of my little treasure going in for this test. The specialist hasn't really explained what is involved as yet but I can only imagine that it's not very nice . What does the skin prick tell you?? Have you all had to deal with this since your little ones were babies?? What is involved in the challenge test?? Any information would really be greatly received

cheekymonkey the skin prick test involves placing a drop of the allergen (serum type) on the skin - usually inner forearm and then they "prick" the skin slightly and await the reaction. The reaction is timed to 3 mins I think as I can't quite remember. My ds had his first set of skin prick tests at 9 months and didn't take any notice of the procedure at all. The area can be quite itchy after the test and my consultant applies some cream to ease the itching but you may want to take some yourself. We have since had testing again when he was 15 months and 21/2 years and he is due again 21 November and will be 3 1/2 years. The actual testing itself has not been an issue for him so far but will be interesting this time I think. We have seen big improvements in results from 9 months to 2 1/2 years so there is hope for your little one.
