Tomato allergy/intolerance

I have a complex digestive system disorder, so for various reasons, I've not eaten tomatoes (and other foods) for a few years. As my health has improved, I've recently reintroduced raw tomatoes. I've been breaking out in welts/hives/rashes. I've experimented and I'm 99.9% sure it's the tomatoes.

How do I know if it's an allergy or an intolerance? Would it be silly to keep testing my theory? And for my final question - should I be eating tomato sauce or cooked tomatoes if raw toms disagree with me?

Thanks in advance.

no dont eat tomatos!

fresh tomato has high level of histamine so can be a problem for those with ige allergies.

I would ask for medical help as you are getting the ige type symptoms.

btw food, like tomato cooked to high heat can make it safer to eat. for instance my son can eat tomato sauce or tinned cooked tomato but not fresh non cooked tomato. As high heat changes the proteins that cause allergic reactions.
