CMPA - red ring around bottom?

Hi all.

DD is 7mo and was diagnosed with CMPA at about 3.5mo after a very long struggle in which nobody would listen to our concerns, etc. At first it was suspected to be reflux, then silent reflux, and then finally CMPA.

When we thought it was reflux, we were told to put her on Aptamil Anti-Reflux, but this made her terribly constipated. Around this time we noticed a red ring around her bottom, which we put down to all of the straining she was doing. We later learnt from our own research that this is typical of CMPA. When she was prescribed allergy milk (Aptamil Pepti 1, which has improved her life enormously), I assumed it would go away but it's still there.

The GP just said it looked like normal nappy rash and to use cream/let her have nappy free time. We'd already been doing this (tried so many creams!) but nothing. I'm not sure if it bothers her or not, but it looks sore. There's no bleeding or ulceration or anything like that.

Just wanted to see if this was normal? DH had CMPA as a baby but DMIL can't remember if he had the ring - but she did say he had generally terrible nappy rash so maybe it went undetected. I did notice a very strong smell from her vagina a couple of weeks ago and a different GP (the one who actually listened and gave us the Pepti) suggested a fungal cream, which hasn't made much difference to that. Other than that she hasn't got any problems down there - nappies all normal now etc.

Thanks!

My guess would be its another food that is causing it.

I would remove egg from her diet first for two weeks. See if ring goes.

Then remove soya

Then remove nuts

Then remove wheat

One of the above is probably the culprit IMHO.

Or it could be all of below too. My DS is allergic to milk, egg, soya and wheat.

We had similar problems with my daughter at around that age. When we changed formula to neocate from pepti it helped enormously, and cut out gluten from diet. In the process of gradually increasing dairy and gluten bk into baby's diet now- fingers crossed all goes ok! Good luck :0)

Thanks for the replies.

I was wondering if it could be another allergy. She's refusing all solids at the moment (been trying to get her to eat for a month!) and we're not forcing her, so all she's having is milk. Could there be something else in there that's bothering her? She's definitely improved since being on the Pepti (approx 4 months now), apart from her terrible naps which have been awful since she was tiny!
