Any tests for possible allergies?

DS is nearly 10. His bowels have always caused him a problem. I first took him to the hospital aged 3 weeks with excessive diarrhea. Initially we were told it was my breast milk, then it was toddler diarrhea even at age 6. Then at our request at age 6 he was xrayed and diagnosed with faecal impaction. We were unaware that he had been constipated as he did not display any classic signs and we had been told he had diarrhea.

He has been on laxatives for 3 years but still struggles and we are advised that he has lost sensation in the nerves. Recently had botox but that has not worked. They also did a biopsy for hirschsprungs but that was negative too. We have been told our only option now is enemas.

It did look like coeliac as was failure to thrive and despite negative bloods he had an endoscopy but it was negative too. He has had rast food allergy tests twice and again all negative. I have raised the question of allergies many times but we are always told that it definitely is not. He has been under a dietician for years and as he has a very limited diet with an intake of half the recommended daily calories we have always been instructed not to try eliminating anything from his diet and have never tried. His diet has always included wheat and cows milk.

Any suggestions of anything we might have missed re allergies or any other tests we could try?

Many thanks.

have you asked to be referred to an imunologist? explain that latest treatment hasnt solved the problem, and you want to try an exclusion diet.

keep pushing.

also it might be worth ringing allergy uk helpline for some support here, they may give you a name to take to the gp or some other support.
