I have one in a fortnight. How long until you get results/diagnosis? Also what was endo like?

Not recent I'm afraid - 8 years ago, but when DD1 had her endoscopy, they confirmed the diagnosis verbally that day, with written confirmation following a few days later.

Because she was little, she had a general anaesthetic, so I don't know what the endoscopy was like I'm afraid. Hope it's not too bad and you get the results through quickly Smile.

When they do an endoscopy (OGD) for coeliac disease they take a very small piece of tissue (biopsy) from the duodenum (it doesn't hurt). They will be able to tell you if they see anything unusual, however you will not get the biopsy result for about a week or two.

For DS1 they told us the result then and there (coeliac) because it was so obvious. Official result took a couple of weeks.

I had mine about 2 years ago.

The endo itself was ok. I had an anaesthetic that was v. gentle. I wasn't really aware of it at all. It was fine. What was horrendous was had to take this med the night before and then the morning to, rem, clear me out. I was not prepared for rushing to the loo with chronic diahorroea(sp?) every 2 minutes. My poor bum was redder than a baboon's arse and twice as sore.

I should be having another but the memory is still rather fresh...

I suggest applying a great bum cream as a preventative measure if you need to take some such concoction.

Got the results pretty quick. About a couple of days I think.

good luck.

DH had one the other week. He chose to have sedation. It didn't bother him at all, he just drifted off. You spend an hour in recovery after if you've chosen sedation.
He had a letter to confirm coeliacs after about 2 weeks.

I had an endoscopy three weeks ago. I was so nervous beforehand and actually tried to cancel it. In the end I had sedation and I don't remember a thing. My husband said that I walked out of the room with a nurse cracking jokes and laughing. I don't remember any of that either. Apparently I was telling the consultant that he was 'my wonderful hero'. How embarrassing is that!
The results were sent to my GP a week later and just said 'biopsy results consistent with coeliac disease' and that I tolerated the procedure extremely well. Praise indeed!

I had an endoscopy in August. It was my second in 8 months and I was anxious. I had sedation both times and can't remember anything about the procedure! felt absolutely fine after. Got my results re coeliac disease straightaway.
