DS allergic to chemicals in swimming pool (assume it's chlorine) is there anything specific to treat this?

DS has had a rash each time we have been abroad on holiday. Gap first said it was due to high factor sun creams sealing his skin plus excessive sweating leading to irritation and scratching that caused it. So we got an antihistamine syrup, fusidic acid and Dermol 500 prescribed. Which doesn't have much effect really.

So this holiday his rash got progressively worse, mainly around where his swim shorts rubbed the skin and after a few days we decided to keep him out the pool (not easy!) and let his skin recover. It improved straight away so we chanced the beach (still using the same sun cream etc) and it became clear that it was the pool water causing the reaction because even in and out the sea his skin continued to clear up.

Since then I have spoken to the GP and asked if there was anything specific we could use and he said no. Surely there must be something more effective out there we can use, otherwise poor DS won't be able to go in a pool again?

You could try giving him an anti-histamine before he enters the pool and see if that helps.

antihistamine b4 going into the pool, use a barrier emollient while in the pool (tho thats no use on hol as skin would burn) shower thoroughly after swimming to wash off the chlorine. and use more emollient.

our son had similar problems, with pools and in the sea, so we went on a lake holiday in france and didnt have any problem.
