Cat allergy - any suggestions?

My dh is very allergic to cat hair, and we've been invited round to my dd's friends house to eat. which is really nice, but they have 2 long haired cats and my dh is very allergic, and can hardly breath after half an hour....how do I ask them (politely) to keep the cats out of the way, and to give their house a good hoover?? or, does anybody have any ideas on a homeopathic way of controlling his symptoms? he has an inhaler to use if he starts feeling bad, but its not really the answer

Don't know if a good hoover will be enough. DS2 has a friend with allergies and even if they stay in the 'good' room where the cat has never been, he still gets red eyes and has to take his inhaler.

Yes, hoovering doesn't really help. I suffer with it too. My mum and dad have a Devonshire Rex cat which are supposed to be good for people with allergies.
If I ever stop over my mum keeps the cat out of the bedroom but it makes no difference.
I'm still sneezing and red faced after a couple of hours.

I am allergic to animal hair. normally steer clear of visiting people with animals but MIL has a dog and i take antihistamines the day before and the day of visiting. Still bothers me but not as much. Stayed over one night at MIL and ended up in hospital(!!!) because forgot to take tablets.
