We live near a park where people often feed the squirrels peanuts so there are lots of peanut shells on the grass. Has anyone ever had a reaction from touching peanut shells?

Following... my son has a peanut allergy and someone in our neighbourhood must have a peanut feeder because our garden gets loads of peanut shells courtesy of the squirrels. We live in a densely populated area and it could come from any of three or four dozen homes, so short of leafleting the area I don't quite know what to do. So far he hasn't had a reaction but I hate the feeling that our garden isn't safe for him to run about in.

yes it is possible to react to peanut shells x such a pity you will be unable to enjoy the park :(

Thanks ukey - have you experienced a reaction or heard of someone having one? Was it from touch or ingestion. Not going to the park is not an option I am just trying to gauge the level of risk. Thanks

lots of advice and tips on pn allergy

we avoid all nuts, peanuts inc may contain, traces etc. He has never actually touched a peanut shell, tho I don't want to find out.

we have had mystery reactions when in parks, walking round shops etc. though not anaphylaxis. maybe an odd hive, itchy eyes, cough etc. I know of kids who have had reactions to being in the same room as people who are eating nuts etc too.

In my honest opinion peanut shells are risky.
