Best sun cream for sensitive skin

MumInCyprus · 22/07/2014 13:06

My 2 year old seems to have developed a sensitivity to the sun cream we have always used (we lived in Cyprus for 1st year of her life so is used to being covered in it). Can anyone recommend a good sun cream for very sensitive skin - she does not have eczema. TIA

My ds had one one prescription made by e45. He did have eczema though. Not sure if they'd prescribe it if it's just sensitive skin.

Nivea Baby (unfragranced in blue bottle) has always worked for us. DS is allergic to fragrances and has a chronic hives skin condition. It comes in 50+ SPF. Their other kids unfragranced ones, like the pump sprays, are well tolerated too.

Sunsense is the only one which doesn't make DS itch and scratch. SPF50.
I buy it online, think it's Aussie.

Sunsense Sunsensitive factor 50 is excellent but very expensive and not easy to get hold of sadly :(

Aveeno baby (have to get it from amazon) is great. We also use Nivea sensitive - the spray in a white bottle and my daughter (who has allergies, eczema, etc) is fine with it. Ask a pharmacist for some samples if possible because it seems different things work for different kids.

Green people have a good children's range. I use it as chemical sunscreens make me sneeze and eyes weep!

We also use Sunsense as a family. Fantastic for my son who has eczema and cannot tolerate any others. Have to buy online though.

I think you have to try what works for your DS.
I tried the whole pharmacy here and abroad with DD1 and almost nothing works. In desperation I ended with the Nivea kids 30 (yes the bleu one!). There is also Klorane baby sun cream but it is not available in the UK.

Yes to the samples we spend a fortune on sun creams! What works is that I use very little suncream too. Keep her in the shade and out of the sun between 11 and 15h. Sun cream is only use for days at the beach, hikes when we know we will be in the sun at midday...

You can get sunsense ultra on prescription. My son used sunsense toddler milk (less chemicals and no flare ups) but I could only get the ultra from doctor. I have yet to test it. But uve had many recommendations from mothers saying it is still great on v sensitive skin. Worth a shot if yoi can get on prescription :)
