Hi,

Just wondering what you normally order and if you have any recommendations?

Thanks! :)

We get juvela fresh sliced white bread (we've also had the brown one, which is also nice) and you can get Genius bread on prescription now too. The bread comes in boxes of 8 loaves, so you need to be able to freeze several loaves. We also get Juvela pasta - fusilli and macaroni, Glutafin baguettes and rolls, which are excellent, and Glutafin bourbon biscuits! A friend gets breakfast rolls for her daughter - can't remember who they're made by, but they are also nice, but also come in large quantities, so storage/freezing can be tricky.

In my area you cannot have biscuits or cereal

ShineSmile · 27/06/2014 23:43

Thanks tk! May I ask, is the juvela bread tastier than the warburtons bread?

Have you tried any pizza bases btw?

My DCs can't stand the pizza bases.
We used to get the juvela fibre loaf (which I personally think is the best GF loaf) but it contains codex wheat which DC2 can't tolerate. We now get warbutons which I don't find as good.
My favourite prescription item is Bialimenta Gnocchi, my DCs love it.
I also get Glutafin wheat free/ gluten free multipurpose mix and use that to make pizza bases and wraps. The glutafin part baked rolls/baguettes are also good.

MsRainbow, that's really really useful, thank you! My DD can't have wheat either.

Between warburtons and genius, which one would you recommend?

Shop bought- I prefer Genius seeded (can't get it on prescription).
Prescription - I get Newhouse White.
I tried genius brown on prescription but didn't like it at all. I have found Genius prescription bread to be not as good as shop bought Genius - I honestly don't know if it's just in my head because they should be the same.
Don't be afraid to try different things on prescription. I have 2 DCs who qualify for prescriptions. For DC1 I have a repeat prescription which stays the same every month (bread & gnocchi) but for DC2 I pop in a prescription request each month with the items I want. It takes time to work out what suits your needs.
If you go to Juvela and Glutafin websites they will send you a hamper of products to try.

My DCs have genius bread and pasta on their prescriptions. I take them into my local tescos and they let me pick any fresh gf bread off their shelves to the same weight so we get the lovely seeded soft ones :-)

Floralnomad · 28/06/2014 14:37

My dd prefers the Tesco GF white sliced to either Warburtons or Genius .

ShineSmile · 28/06/2014 17:53

Thanks everyone!

MsRainbow, do you have the PIP code to the Newhouse one?

Hellokittycat, really?! You can swap them?!

Hellokittycat · 28/06/2014 18:44

You can in my area!! I've got something stupid on my prescriptions like 200g un sliced loaves as that's the closest my gp could find on their system. I get 8 loaves for dc1 and 4 loaves plus pasta for dc2, I just get 6 shop floor 565g loaves for dc1 and 3 for dc2 instead. I pick from genius or warburtons and pick seeded or brown/white depending on what looks best on the day! I just take the prescribed pasta though

Hellokittycat · 28/06/2014 18:44

I mean 400g not 200g on prescription

Hellokittycat · 28/06/2014 18:47

I'm not massively keen on the spaghetti though, it's horrible to cook, I just can't get the hang of it. Might see if I can swap for some other kind of pasta.
My gp surgery basically said you get a certain no of 'point' depending on age and you can choose to split your points however you want between bread, pasta, pizza bases and flour (I didn't get biscuits as an option!)
