Peanut allergy?

I posted this in childrens health, but was advised to post here.
Ds2 (12 mo) has previously had a small reaction to peanut butter, just red hives around his mouth, but he didn't actually eat any.
I took him to see the gp about his allergies as he has had simelar reactions to egg(in raw state- like omelet he's ok with cake etc) *some cheese, and tuna.
The gp advised to avoid these for the time being, saying he will probably out grow the cheese and egg allergy but maybe not the peanut.
Anyway, without thinking about it I had a peanut butter sandwich, and at 1am this morning (about half an hour after I fed him)DS2 broke out in hives around his tummy, was very itchy and uncomfortable.
I gave him piriton and took him to OOH DR. he said it was more than likely from his cold that he has had (mostly over it now) but I can't help but think that it's from the peanut butter I had earlier in the day?
Can anyone shed any light on this? Is his reaction going to get worse, or will it stay at hives? Will he possibly out grow it in time?

You need to go back to the GP and ask for a referral to an immunologist, you will need
advice about testing to confirm the allergy.

you need an immunologist /allergy doc to assess if your sons allergies are potentially life threatening, and need a prescription for an auto injector.

you need access to hospital testing and food challenges to see if son has outgrown his food allergies and how to safely re- introduce in diet.

take a look at the NICE guidelines on food allergy/ anaphylaxis/ treatment.

Thanks for replying, when I took him to see his gp initially about numerous things as well as the allergy things she said that she would not refer him to have a skin test as we knew what he was allergic to.
The dr on call last night was quite adamant that it would not be passed on through breast milk.
And to make things worse he's just broke out in hives around his tummy again, I've not fed him since this morning and not had anymore peanut butter. Oh this is so confusing!

He needs to be tested (blood and skin prick) for egg and peanut allergy (they commonly go together). You need to know for sure if he has these allergies. You also need access to proper advice if he is allergic, so ask (and if they put you off) insist to be referred to a paediatric allergy specialist.

Until you know if he is allergic (and he may not be) do not give him peanuts or eat them yourself if you are breastfeeding or let other people round him eat them.

As for the hives, if he was exposed to something he was allergic to once then his body may well have a number of increasingly small reactions over a few days. We had this w ds1 on several occasions. Hives caused by a virus is also a possibility - that's why you need to test to be sure.

Ps your doctor is talking bollocks about the bresst milk.

They can definitely have allergic reactions through exposure through breast milk. we discovered all of DS' s allergies before he started on solids. Defo ask for a referral, you may know what he's allergic too but the hospital will also have access to dieticians etc who can guide you through the process of re-introduction.

My dd is allergic to peanuts. I didn't know this when she was little and so ate peanut butter regularly while I was breast feeding her. She was regularly covered in rashes. This stopped once we discovered her allergy and we banned peanut butter from our lives.
