Fragrance-free styling products

Dd wants me to curl her hair for a fancy-dress occasion, but her hair won't hold a curl without assistance, and I'm allergic to fragrances.

I can't find any mousse or other product that is fragrance-free.

Any suggestions?

Could you do it the old-fashioned way - use curlers in wet hair then blast it with the hairdryer until bone dry? Should hopefully stay curly for long enough.

I've tried, but they stay up for less than an hour. Her hair stays wavy for a good few hours, but the tight, bouncy curl disappears within minutes.

I am sure there is a gel on amazon and/or eBay. I thought about buying it for my ds who has very sensitive skin. But I didn't buy it in the end. I am fed up spending money on things that irritate his skin.

I was convinced that the whole cosmetics industry was just done enormous con, and that I was probably the only non-lentil-weaver in the world to realise this. Until I was diagnosed with fragrance allergy and turned my whole household fragrance-free. Within a couple of months my skin had started healing - I hadn't even realised it was in trouble! Being chronically inflamed = normal.

Now that my skin has healed, I see that moisturisers do actually moisturise!

God help me when I have a house full of teenagers in a few years' time!

I think my son has an allergy to fragrance. How did you get your diagnosis? Was it through gp and referral to skin specialist? I am thinking it could be a possibility for me too. I have problems with my skin and my face now has red patches on it.

The gel I looked at was on Amazon and is £10.18, it is called Free & Clear hair styling gel ( sorry I dont know how to link). One of the reviewers said they had an allergy to the gel but other reviews were very positive.

It is so difficult to find good products for people with allergies. I am trying to find a good hand wash for my son to take into school. The only one I can find in the shops is the e45 handwash so he is trying that. His poor wee hands are all red and itchy.

My mother and aunt used sugar water to set curls when they were young. Many women during the war used this when toiletries were in short supply. It does work I am told and can be washed out afterwards. make the final rinse with sugar water or spray on to hair and set with rollers.

Tacal my DD had eczema in her hands so can't use soaps to wash. She's been prescribed Dermol 500 by the GP. It's a microbial lotion that can be used as a soap substite. It's been fab!

It comes in a big pump-action bottle so we just decant some into a travel bottle to keep on her for then she's out and about.

I once got diluted honey in my hair, and it set quite solid! So sugar water is definitely a possibility. I wonder whether there's any other option that allows you to brush the hair?

I was referred bus dermatologist, when I had been sent to her for what the GP thought was a fungal infection. The testing involves putting over 100 tiny samples of potential allergens on you back for 48h, then they check your back , and check again48h later.

Hand wash: try the Simple range, or Waitrise do a FF range called Pure. It's quite difficult to get hold of, but I find it excellent,especially the hand wash and the moisturiser.

pleasesleep my ds got prescribed dermol 500 today! He has one at school and one at home. I have also put some in a little travel bottle for when he is out. It is good to hear that it is good and should hopefully help.
