dry skin or allergy?

my dd is now 11 weeks old, she was born 8 days overdue with very dry flaky skin. i understand this is normal in overdue babies. now her skin is not flaky so much but it's very very dry, especially on her torso, not at all on her legs, a little on her arms. also, under her chin, which is rather a chubby double chin, she is very red, scaly and dry. i put this down to dribble/milk etc accumulating in her creases. is this still just overdue baby dry skin or eczema or allergy or what? doctor saw her at 6 week check up and said it's just overdue baby skin. didn't think it would go on this long though?? she is exclusively breast fed.

Hmmmm, DD1 was like this and she has excema still at 2.6. I would say be careful what you put on her skin, ie wash with water and use something like olive oil or badger balm for the dry bits. i also find that less baths help, we do about 3 times a week but some people find more help and use a bath oil. her chin does sound like dribble rash - DD2 has this but sudocream clears it overnight. hope you can clear it up. bfing so sorry for lack of capitals!

oh yes watch your washing powder too - could be likely if on torso. ecover non bio or surcare is best. i once washed nappies in fairy non bio and DD1s bum was on fire.

are overdue babies more prone to long term eczema? any one else had this?

Sorry Dixxybint I've not been at computer. I don't think that there is a link between the two. Tilly actually came brfore her dates but looked overdue ie very dry. Eczema runs in mine and DPs family tho which is the commonest cause of atopic eczema I think. How is your DDs skin?Any better?
The best cream to try is Aveeno by the way. You can get it on prescription but why not buy a tube and try it?

DD had this when she was born, she was a week early though. She was very dry around ankles and her hands. It did clear up with a little bit of emolient but if I knew then what I know now I would have started on the Aveeno Moisturiser (SP?)instead of all the creams I went through that made things worse. DD is eight months and has excema, worst on her knees and ankles. She can get a bit dry all over but the Aveeno is great, it cleared her face face up as well. I use the Aveeno oil in her bath as well and just water on her face. She only gets a bath every second or third day. I didn't find the Aveeno lotion as good as the moisturiser.
