facial rash when introducing formula

My ds is 6 and a half months old. He has been exclusively bf from birth to six months, (something I persevered with with some difficulty to try to safeguard against allergies, and because he already has some exzema)
last week I tried to mix up some baby rice with formula for him. he more or less immediately came up in a red rash with raised white bumps around his face where the food had touched it. I tried again the following day and the same thing happened. I left it five days and tried with a different brand of formula and the same thing happened, I think a bit worse.
I assume this is some kind of allergy. does anyone have experience of this? is a reaction like this likely to get worse with repeated exposure? should I try soya formula? my gp has referred him for tests but anticipates they will take a long time. I intend to carry on bf and he is taking some fruit and veg now. however, he is not an enthusiastic bfeeder and I'm struggling a bit. also, I was advised to stop for a medical problem I have.
Thanks.
btw there is a family history of allergies - I am allergic to fish and my ds1 is allergic to sesame.

I wonder why your gp didn't give you a script for nutramgen or neocate.

I would aviod giving him anything that contains milk or milk products to be honest.

Also chase up the hospital as he shouldn't have to wait for long.
