Rash anything to do with dairy??

DS2 is 18 months old. He was CMPI. When he was about 1 I reintroduced dairy slowly, up to the point where he had everything apart from fresh cows milk to drink (he was fine with yoghurt, cheese, cooked milk etc.) About 10 days ago I started mixing full fat milk with his soya milk morning and night. 2 days ago he developed a rash over his body and legs (not face). It blanches under pressure (first thing I checked). He has a slight temperature, he's off his food, not sleeping brilliantly, looks pale but is pretty cheery. Instinct tells me it's a virus and nothing to do with milk, but whenever I increase his dairy intake I get a bit paranoid. What do you think? Will obviously take him to the doctor on Monday if it's still there.

I'd just keep him off dairy completely and look at the intolerance as a blessing (to inspire you to get him dairy free). Dairy will do him, and everyone else, more harm than good anyway. Good luck

Hi chocolate,
Thanks for your message but I don't really have anything against him or us having dairy (as a family we don't eat masses, but after being dairy free for 14 months when bf ds2 know I much prefer having dairy in my diet than out). And also I'm not really happy with any of the alternatives - all drinks like oatley, almond milk, rice milk etc are not suitable for under 2s. I had been giving him 1+ Soya but then read that soya is not recommended for boys as it contains oestrogen (all of them qualify this by saying 'as a main drink' and tbh ds2 eats very well and doesn't drink more than about 7oz milk a day, even though he is offered more).

I just think that because there was over a week between introducing milk and the first appearance of the rash, plus the fact that he's off his food generally with a temperature , a virus is more likely. But I'd be interested to hear if anyone has any other experiences...

I'd leave off the milk to tbh. If it's a virus then once he's over it then go back to mixing the milks. But as he's under the weather then why give him something that has a chance of making him feel worse. He managed all this time without drinking cows milk. A couple more days isn't gonna hurt. Get him well and start again.

Incidently, dd 2 gets cold symptoms within a couple of days of being "let off" being dairy free for a party or occasion every it's not totally possible. She doesn't "rash up" but skin is noticeably drier.

Coincidence? Who knows but she's healthy dairy free so o stick to it.
