Lactose intolerance?

Hi
I'd be grateful for some advice. I have grown up surrounded by lactose intolerant people - my dad was and both sons are. I've always known that I don't digest milk easily and have wondered. I've recently been diagnosed as coeliac and have started eating gluten free cereal rather than toast for breakfast. I have cereal with lactofree milk. I am, however, fairly sure that I am having similar symptoms to the lactofree as I do to ordinary milk. Now that I'm drinking a lot more of it, the very specific symptoms which I had associated with (and are fairly typical of) lactose intolerance are much worse. Can anyone shed any light on this please? Is there something else in milk it's possible to be sensitive to rather than lactose?
Thanks

Hi yes you could be reacting to cows milk protein - more common allergy/intolerance in west than lactose. Maybe try soya, coconut, or almond milk instead? Oat milk is nice too but obviously has a bit of gluten in it. Just check that substitute milk has calcium added to it, or take a calcium supplement.
