Allergic to nappies

Dd appears to be having a reaction to something in nappies. Ds had the same and after many visits to doctors, a locum suggested swapping to Huggies. That solved it.
I got probably the last ever packet of Huggies and dd was fine. I'm so gutted they aren't made any more.
I'm going to take her to the dr but I'm sure they'll prescribe steroid cream, as with ds. I don't really like the idea of long-term steroid cream use. Any ideas?
She gets an itchy red rash on her bum cheeks and it's worse with the heat from a bath. She broke the skin scratching recently.

If you keep having problems with nappies my only suggestion would be cloth :). Cloth isn't as much work as you might think, can be very cheap to get set up and if it solves your problems worth a think? No chemicals, no nasties, nothing to irritate the skin.

Interestingly Huggins were fine but leaked badly as a baby so didn't try again after a day of sodden newborn, don't know if pampers bd would work for you?

Alternatively what brands have you tried? I mainly use cloth but if on holiday or something tend to use Aldi or Lidl. You can get some eco paper nappies too that are low in chemicals, look online for brands like moltex, bambo (free trial pack I spotted [http://www.beamingbaby.co.uk/baby_products/bambo_biodegradable.html?gclid=CLfWsZy8yboCFWfLtAodDSYAmw here]] though I've never tried them myself) or Naty.

Pampers irritated my ds's skin so have never tried them on dd. I have used Naty Baby Care Eco nappies and they were better but they're so expensive.
Cloth nappies haven't occurred to me for some reason, but that makes a lot of sense. I did try them with ds but failed miserably. I don't have a dryer so normal washing is hard enough this time of year. However, it's a good idea, thanks.

We used Huggies newborn when dd was tiny, then cloth from 8lb /8 weeks, now with Pampers baby dry at night.

Once, Asda sent their own brand instead of the Huggies - red rash.

We also used cotton wool and water for a really long time, well, still do at past 18mo though her tolerance for Huggies wipes (used when messy) seems better than it was (for any wipes - again, red rash).

So, maybe Pampers but cloth have been great. They catch poo better too, though, with age, are getting leakier for wee.

She has had horrible bleedig nappy rash a few times (not for a long time now) and Metanium cream and vigilance was the answer.

We just hang the nappies along the bannister and on radiators!

Strangely, dd reacted to Huggies wipes when younger so I don't buy those but pampers are fine. Perhaps, going back to water and cotton wool is a good idea though. Will try that.

You get used to it! I'm on dc3 now, all have been in cloth. At one point I had 2 in cloth at once. We've never had a tumble drier. Lots of nappies are no amazingly quick to dry that it really doesn't matter, for example pocket nappies with microfibre insets. They are a think, waterproof outer that you stuff so come apart in the wash and the separate bits dry quickly. Microfibre is really quick to dry, faster than cotton terry cloth. Stick to small loads so you can get them all on your airer at once and they will dry overnight. YOu can either save a fortune by keeping them for future children or get a fair chunk of money back by selling them on once you are done.

We had problems with pampers when ds was small, swapped to huggies and all ok. Now huggies not available we use aldi , they seem most similar. Also use bepanthen cream at night but when ds younger at every hnappy change. I think metanium works for some, but not all. Bepanthen not medicated so can be used often as needed and even as preventative when all ok.

these wipes are a great alternative to cotton wool and water. Particularly if you're using cloth nappies.

You can still get huggies in Costco-despite the withdrawal from Europe.

Otherwise I find lidl (old style)ok.

Ended up in cloth with no 3 quite early for this reason, actually it was nicer than dispo in so many ways. You don't realise how much a wet dispo nappy smells till you use cloth for instance!
