Solids as substitute for formula with a MPI?

As a matter of interest is there anyone here whose LO is not keen on formula and who is also MPI? How do you supply necessary calories and calcium etc?

LO (8.5 months)is going off her milk (Neocate) big time (its always been a struggle but now its much worse). She has been slow to take solids (only this week showing a bit of interest in soya yogs and avocado). I know it is possible to supplement with a vit/calcium supplement (dietician mentioned it) but obviously some full fat food and calories is going to be needed if she keeps this up.

So IF her solid intake does start to increase (if not then we are going to be off to the gastroenterolgist again (she had reflux)!) then is there any way we can get by without much formula?

I have posted another post about neocate flavourings (worth a try maybe)

thanks
alice

Hi alice

My dd is CMPI and we gave up on neocate after 7wks and moved onto soya formula. She was alot better and happier, tummy wise as well as feeding.

She also has refluxed and I found she spat up a lot on neocate and it would take her 40mins to take 5oz. The 1st day I gave her the soya, she started taking 7-8oz in 15mins and by day 3 she started sleeping through the night. Paed agreed with me that the feeding reluctance couldn't have been because of the taste.

I have hear of a lot of mothers having success with the flavoured neocate though, but I thought it was for 1+ years.

Can't really help re supplements and increasing solids.

HTH

Alice - are you still bf at all? My DD is some way behind yours, at just 5 months, but I have given up dairy so that I can continue bf her, and try to get enough calcium in my diet from rice milk with added calcium and oily fish. If you are bf at all then you could put her to the breast a few more times a day in order to try and build up your supply enough to make it her sole milk source.

CSWS - Pleasure. Let me know how the normal formula trial goes. Good luck!

Alice - Sorry, for the hijack.
