Possible allergy, what to do?

I think my DD has a tomato allergy, during or after eating she starts to itch her face, lots, there are no other symptoms & as soon as she finishes eating I tidy her up (she's 11 months bty) & she's fine. However she does often have the rash on her face for the rest of the evening, I'll put some cream on & it seems better, but never quite clears if you get me.
So what would you do if you were me? Doc wasn't arsed/says it baby acne, I'm adamant an allergy/reaction, my MIL says I must stop giving her toms. Problem is she blooming loves everything with a tom base, chilli, soups, spag Bol & other pasta type dishes. I actually find she prefer tomato foods, & has double portions.... So can I keep giving her foods that make her itchy or am I being really mean?

I'd stop giving her tomatoes. I used to have this and it was counteracted by a banana (true).

It could just be a contact rash. Also tomato mimics histamine (or something like that!) and can give a rash that's not a true allergic reaction. Is the rash just round her mouth? You could try putting on some Vaseline as a barrier round her mouth and see if that helps.

sounds like oral allergy syndrome:

Yes it's just around her mouth & cheeks... I think as there no other symptoms I'm going to try covering her in Vaseline & see if that works! I think if she wasn't really bothered about tomatoey thing I cut them out but anything tomato based is a favourite! & I'll try giving her bananas for pudding too!!

very common reaction in young children, its quite acidic on sensitive skin.

I would take tomato out of diet, until a little older.

As eragon says, it's very common for babies and young children to get a rash around their mouths after eating tomatoes (and strawberries and other acidic fruits) but it doesn't necessarily mean they're allergic, especially if there are no other symptoms. However, I personally would not remove tomato from her diet unless absolutely necessary but would definitely try applying Vaseline before and after eating. As long as she has no other symptoms it would be a shame to remove such a nutritious food from her diet.

I agree with freefrommum, my DS had this rash and I cut tomatoes out until we could be seen for testing. The test was negative and I was told it was probably just a contact rash or histamine reaction.

He now won't eat raw tomatoes at all Sad.
