How do you get diagnosed with hayfever?

My ds2 had an allergic reaction last week his eyes were really swollen and i had to take him to hospital and they gave me piriton liquid. I thought it was a one off. Today hes been playing in the garden and he keeps rubbing his eyes, theyre a wee bit red and his nose is running a wee bit also. Should i take him to the doctor as i think it might be pollen hes allergic too. Would he get an allergy test or would she just diagnose him with hayfever? Any advice would be appretiated as i dont know much about allergies. TIA

he could try the over the counter anti histamines you can buy, if they work it is likely to be hayfever

i didnt get it until about 5 years ago, and this summer has been particularly bad for me

I took DS to the drs as his eyes were swelling up. They said it was probably an allergic reaction and gave him piriton. I asked about hayfever and was told he didn't have enough symptoms at the moment. By that, I assume they diagnose it if they have several symptoms rather than run a test.

hi 2mum, my friend's daughter (who's 8) was diagnosed by sight as suffering with hayfever, she didn't undergo any tests. She suffers exactly like your ds2, swollen, itchy eyes and running nose. She was prescribed piriton liquid also.

I suffer terribly with hayfever, it makes you so tired, the feeling is like having a very heavy cold and having no energy sometimes. The constant sneezing is exhausting (I have itchy ears too, just thought I'd mention it). Hope he gets the correct medicine too. hth

wash his weyes out with cool water. also, if yu have one of those cool gel eye mask things, they often help.
he might be old enough for over the coutneter medication.

Why buy over-the-counter medicine when you can get it free from your doctor? I recommend Mizollen if he is over 12 years of age, it doesn't make you drowsy and stops the symptoms in their tracks!!

Thanks for the advice, ds2 is 3 and autistic and nonverbal and i dont think he`d let me wash out his eyes with cold water. I think i will make an appointment with my gp, im never away from the doctors what with prescriptions and what not!

You're very welcome, I hope he gets the right medicine to make his symptoms disappear, poor little fella, he must feel rotten!

also try vaseline around his nasal passages - traps the pollen and stops it from getting up and causing strife.

Ds2 was in his buggy today down the street and someone said look at his wee eye its really sore looking. I looked at it and it had swollen up again and his nose was running so i went to the chemist and they gave me some allerief and some eyedrops but i dont think hell let me put the eyedrops in. Ive an appointment for the doctor next week, i think he has got hayfever. Ill have to buy some vaseline and try that thanks for the tip smoggie.
