Do milk allergic babies always react to cmp in bm?

My 13 mth old baby gets hives whenever he eats or touches cows milk. However, we only found out about this at 6 mths when we started weaning because he has never reacted to cmp in my breastmilk.

I still eat dairy and he seems fine. Is it common for some babies to not react to cmp in breastmilk inspite of being allergic to milk?

Not all babies react to the proteins in breast milk. I've no idea why this is. Others react to tiny traces in breast milk.

Does he have any eczema?

He did have eczema between 3 and 9 months but doesn't now. Thanks for your response

My son reacted to the cow's milk in my BM but his cousin didn't react until the first time he was given formula when he ended up in A&E. Guess some babies are more sensitive to it than others (or maybe it was the 2 pints of milk I was guzzling each day thinking I was doing the right thing?!).

no, they don't

generally the proteins in things you eat should not pass through your gut into your blood stream (i believe) and thus don't end up in your milk.

however some mothers with a "leaky gut" (this can be for a variety of reasons including food intolerances of their own) will find that proteins do make it through and can affect baby

Maybe babies react to breast milk if their atopic genes are inherited through their mothers, rather than their fathers?

I have mild intolerances to some of the foods DS1 is allergic to, Ireact to some cosmetics, and my father has quite severe eczema and hay fever, so it seems likely that DS1 inherited his allergies from me. DH and his family have no allergies at all (although DH does have quite pronounced dennie-morgan lines under his eyes).

Would love to read some research on this.

I would like to read some research on this. DS reacted strongly to tiny traces of CMP in my breast milk. I don't have any allergies or intolerances and don't believe I have a leaky gut...

DD2 didn't appear to react to dairy in my BM - until we started weaning. She reacted relatively strongly to small bits of egg & dairy when she had them, and after that she would get symptoms if I had dairy. I really don't know how/why it happened that way, but she certainly didn't react before she was weaned.

My son didn't have a hives type reaction to breastmilk but he did have severe eczema until his cows milk allergy was diagnosed. I am expecting dc2 and the allergic clinic have told me to eat a normal diet unless I see signs of eczema, in which case to get in touch as its an indicator they could be reacting to something I am eating
