Nut allergy in France

Hi, my son, 8, is allergic to nuts and we are going to France on holiday.

We have learned to words for various nuts so we can ask and read labels, and been told to especially learn the word for almond, as almond flour is in a lot of cakes there.

Any other top tips? We've never taken him to a non-English speaking country before and I'm a bit nervous.

DS 17 has just got back from a week in Paris and had no problems at all, He just went with gf , also in Switzerland on a school trip two weeks before that and again no problems. DS is allergic to tree nuts and sesame but not peanuts.

as others have said make up ALLERGY ALERT cards in French, Stating that your son had a life threatening allergy to all nuts and peanuts, and can not eat anything that contains or may contain traces of nuts or peanuts.

I would also be wary of lupin flour when in france as we don't tend to use it in the UK but can be used in breads etc in france and chance of those with nut allergy also reacting to lupin

Hi, my daughter has a tree nut allergy. She is 9 and we have been to France with her twice and we are going again this month. We self-catered so that hugely reduced the risk. Stuck to meat, veg, salads etc for bbqs. Got good at translating labels. Noisette is hazelnut which is her main allergen. She mainly had ice lollies instead of ice creams but they do sell recognisable brands too.We avoided the patisseries as in continental europe, and almonds and hazelnuts are widely used in baking.
