Probiotics - any success?

Has anyone here had any success with these in terms of helping immune system, eczema etc?

2 of my DD's have immune deficiances and their paediatrition suggested we use actimil or such like for them both. I also give them vitimins every day too, and ever since both have been lots better in that they haven't needed half as many antibiotics.

Not sure on the eczema front as I never thought about it but thinking about it now, my DD2 hasn't had a flare up in months, so am guessing they are helping that too!!!!:)

I would recommend them to anyone, as I think they really do help

Ds has one every day, I find they regulate his bowel movements, keep his skin clear, he is almost never ill and if he is it is only for a day. Even if you don't think they are doing anything they can't harm you, so are a perfect medicine in that sense.

Taking with Omega oil (flax or fish) is supposed to improve their efficacy.

jasper I own a health shop and through trial and error over the years we have found Solgar probiotics to be one of the best. they do a tasteless powder for babies and children and various price/strength of capsules for adults.

Higher Nature are also very good.
as are quest.

the udo's ones are probably quite good, although there stuff is often more expensive than similar-quality brands.

I was definately glad to find this thread as my ds has a 'sensitive' stomach and we don't know if its down to food intolerences or not (drs really couldn't give a shit ). Someone suggested probiotics to line his stomach but I didn't know whether you could give them to young kids or not. Will definately have a look for the ones suggested. Are they likely to be available in large health food shops or are they something you have to order offline?

I am in NZ - I use Nature's Way, which are from the US. I use the powder.

You can use probiotics in pregnancy and with newborn babies. Give at least 2 courses before deciding that they don't work as if you are lacking in these bacteria it takes a while to build them up.
