Calcium supplements

My 16mth old ds has been prescribed calcium supplements (has multiple allergies). The sachets we were prescribed are currently not being manufactured, so being prescribed Cacit - not the D3 one, (don't know what that is), which is a tablet to cut in half and dissolve in water. My ds is great at taking medicine - took ranitidine, gaviscon, antibiotics etc no problem. However, he will not take the Cacit - which smells like cheap orange squash, and is a bright orange squash.

Wondering what other prescribed calcium prescriptions people have, or how they manage to succeed in getting their little ones to take it. Have tried in porridge (with nutramigem aa formula) - it dyed it pale orange and he refused the porridge. In water in his tommee tippee, he refused ... bit stuck. Want to avoid syringing it into him if possible.

Could you ask for Sandoz syrup? Would that be appropriate for him?

Oh a syrup sounds ideal as he takes syrups easily. Thanks, will ask the dietician if they can. She was confused when what she usually prescribed was no longer available so we were not sure what else was available.

No - it is the syrup that is not being manufactured so cannot be prescribed I have found out!

Bugger!!

The manufacturing issues with Sandoz are driving me crazy! It's been going on for ages now. We've started buying Osteocare liquid but I don't think you can get it on prescription, it doesn't taste as nice and you have to give more of it per day as it contains less calcium per spoonful so not ideal! I really wish they'd sort out the problems with Sandoz :(

I would buy anything as ds will not take calcit and one of his front teeth has broken so need the calcium!! Thanks for the idea of another make.

Good luck hope you can get him to take the Osteocare. By the way, I think I bought it in Asda but you can probably get it in Boots etc too.

Does anyone know if they are planning to resume making the calcium Sandoz syrup?

We're nearly at the bottom of our last bottle and I'm hoping to avoid having to trial a whole lot of new supplements in order to find one he tolerates.
