Ready brek

I thought I would try my ds on ready brek today. He's allergic to milk so the 'fortified with calcium and other vitamins' appealed to me!

Sadly It says on the box that its not suitable for people with a milk allergy.

Does anyone know of an alternative eg a supermarket own brand that we could try?

Has anyone tried their milk allergic children with it? I'm assuming its the manufacturing process due to my reading of a similar thread about ready brek earlier.

Thanks

Could you buy regular oats and grind up
in a blender to get the consistency of Ready Brek. Won't have all the added vitamins though

Hi. My daughter has CMP allergy and she eats both Ready Brek & Sainsburys own version (even though they both say not suitable I tried a small amount at first and she was fine). I used to buy the Tesco version as they did not have this additional warning on the box but its been awhile since I bought it so may have changed.

I'm lucky that's she's been fine with it as she is normally very sensitive to every thing!! But the amount of calcium in it made me want to be brave!!

I've wondered about Ready Brek too, but was put off by the warning as DD2 is CMPI. Let us know how you get on melon if you go for it.

Thanks! I'm going to be brave and give it a go! I think ds would love it! I'll let you know!

I was told by my dietitian a couple of months ago that they contacted Ready brek and the only reason that is on it is due to dairy products being used in the same factory!

My son who has multiple allergies is also fine with it.

melonribena · 12/06/2013 22:05

Great news queenie! Am definitely trying it now!

I had heard what queeniebee had, my DS who has cmpa is ok with it

freefrommum · 12/06/2013 22:20

My DS is also fine with it and the Morrisons version even though he reacts to the smallest traces

Hi everyone! Ds had a very small portion of ready brek on Saturday and then a normal sized bowl in Sunday. He absolutely loved it and had no reaction whatsoever. It's so much cheaper than the baby porridges we had we using for lack of anything else he would eat!
Thanks for all your advice and experiences!

was the dairy in another part of the factory or on shared equipment?

tropicana orange juice contains calcium we give that to milk intol daughter, but vit d lacking son cant drink orange juice, (I suspect heartburn, but also a migrane trigger)
thankfully son can eat milk, so can eat ready brek.
(sorry am waffling, food is sooo complicated in our home!)

freefrommum · 18/06/2013 12:50

Know the feeling eragon! DD coeliac, DS multiple allergies, DH allergic to nuts... I'm the only one in our house who can eat whatever!
