Hi, my Dd - age 6 weeks was diagnosed with silent reflux and is on omeprazole as of last friday which seems to have got it under control. The paed asked me to go dairy free to rule out cmpi (I don't drink cows milk and follow a gluten free diet so didn't have much dairy to cut out anyway). We were doing fine for a few days and then I got a hideous tummy bug, my h-v told me to switch to formula so i wouldnt pass on my bug which I did on Thurs night - using hip organic. Everything was fine until Saturday when she started reducing intake at feed times, Saturday evening she projectile vomited her whole feed and has hardly eaten since. I've only offered her boob since then.
New symptoms - constantly sleeping - I have to wake her every 4 hours to force a feed, she has vomited at every feed - the feeds are miniscule - she really has lost her appetite. Her wind is horrendous, forceful and causing her enormous pain - even whilst asleep, also explosive thick foul smelling poo of varying green-white colour - she's only done 3 or 4 poos since formula was introduced as opposed to them being constant when bf.

She isn't dehydrated thank goodness but I'm really worried. I think my h-v is crap and I don't have a health professional I trust locally so wondered if any of you have had a similar experience? Or maybe she's ill.....?

Your hv should never have told you to stop bf, that is very bad advice. If you were told to be dairy free to help her then cows milk based formula is the worst thing you could have given her. Keep bf as much as possible to help maintain your supply and help get the formula out of her system. There are dairy free formulas that could have been prescribed but they shouldnt have been required if you kept on bf her.

Thanks. I can't believe my h-v - I could literally murder her right now. What qualifications do you need to become one....?
My poor daughter is only comfy upright in the sling but.... My son has caught my bug and its impossible to clean a runny bum - he's 2 - with a baby strapped on board. Am feeling so frikkin depressed about the situation!
I know if I ring the hospital they will admit dd fore more monitoring but I need to look after son as my oh is working and in the middle of his finals (home study degree)!.

.......

It sounds as if your dd has probably caught the same tummy bug to me, especially if she is also vomiting up breastmilk.

Worth keeping a close eye on though as the symptoms are very similar to an allergic reaction (my dcs vomit if have cows milk).
