blood in stools

Hi
My 3yr girl has had signs of bleeding after going to the toilet. This has been going on for over 6mnths now and so far doctors have only given stool softener medicine and did a stool test for crohns/IBD (which so far appears negative)
Now been advised to go dairy free (early days but that doesnt seem to have improved it)
Anyone any experience of a 3yr old who is otherwise healthy suddenly developing a cows milk allergy? She is also now showing signs of eczema.

I am trying to avoid the trauma of a colonoscopy but the longer this goes on, the more likely it is looking :(

Nearly 10 months now, going to ask dr to arrange a colonoscopy or whatever the internal examination is. Really can't let this go on any longer, blood in /after stools nearly every time now :( she's still in no pain and otherwise appears healthy.

Anyone else sent their child for one of these examinations? Has to have general anaesthetic too :(

Xx

No experience of this at all, but wishing you all the best.

Who advised you to go dairy free? Have there been any indicators that dairy might be a problem? Dairy allergies are fairly common, but you can be allergic to almost anything, so picking on dairy (rather than eggs, wheat, fish or whatever) seems a bit random.

Blood in stools can be an indicator of allergy, but it could be a number of other things as well.

Really hope you get this sorted. Sounds miserable for your little girl.

Thanks for your reply - it was the paediatrician at hospital that advised dairy free & yes it does seem random & hasn't seemed to have made any difference. However every time I tell her the bleeding has continued she makes sure we haven't given her dairy. I think she said cows milk can aggravate any existing gut problem & we don't really know what that is yet so to be on safe side to stay off it.
I don't see how it could be a dairy allergy as she happily had milk until she was 3.
Anyway, as much as I didn't want this internal examination, I am keen to see what it is now so hope to hear from hospital with appointment soon.
Thanks again
X
