How much milk for a CMPI one year old?

DS has CMPI & soy problems. I'm still BFing and returning to work soon. He won't take neocate so i will need to express.

Work are being difficult about the time they are willing to give me to do this. He has four feeds a day. I'm reluctant to reduce this as I'm prettying his only source if calcium.

Does anyone know how much milk they need at this age?

they only need about 300mls of milk from the age of 1. Non-dairy sources of calcium also count. Could some of his drinks be coconut milk or oat milk, etc? Or you could use non-dairy milk in cereals, cooking, etc.

I do use coconut milk
on cereal and cooking. I get mixed info on this with some saying they need a proper source (BM or formula) until they are two.

I try and give him other sources of calcium through his diet but he's not keen on a lot of them.

I'm bumping this as I don't know what to do.

Work are not happy for me to express as often as i need to yet he needs milk.

He is only on the 2nd centile for weight (having dropped there) so I'm reluctant to drop a feed. The coconut milk carton says not suitable until two. He won't take neocate, what could I replace it with?!

Can u ask for an alternative such as aptimil pepti? It's slightly more palatable.

Plus like it or not legally they do have to provide you with somewhere to express milk. They have no right to dictate whether you can or can't.

Could you perhaps start adding coconut oil, olive oil extra math to his food to boost calories. Hummus, nut butters, thic and creamy coconut milk in curries etc to add extra fat and calories to food do if u do drop a feed its not so bad

They only need formula until they are 1 as a breastmilk substitue, cow's milk works as a breastmilk substitute until 2.

4 breastfeeds a day sounds fine, can you not fit 3 around work hours though? One in the morning, one after work, one before bed - then you only need to express once at work.

None of the alt milks (except alpro soy 1+ but obviously not suited here!) are meant as a main drink under 2.

That sounds like he's getting enough, the recommendation is about 3 portions of dairy but to replicate that with alternatives is hard as they're all different fat levels. Humous, nut butters etc like PP said are great for good fats and calcium x

if you are still going to breastfeed then the alternative milks wont be the main milk source so would be fine to give. If you have alternative sources of calcium then they dont need much milk at all. My 2 only had 2 milk feeds by 11 months although they could have other dairy products.

I was in same situation with DS1 at that age - was only bfing once at night by then and he had v little milk in day at all as was not keen on the allergy formulas. Can you get a referral to a dietician to help work out the calcium and other nutrient needs? Iron might be worth a check.

THe best thing I did was readybrek plus whichever milk substitute every day - as the porridge is fortified with calcium as well as the milk, this pretty much covered his calcium needs at least for the day. It's no sugar too and has other vitamins in so a good option.

We could have soya so also tried for 1 alpro yog at lunchtime to boost levels, but that might not be an option for you.

Even if the coconut / oat milks etc might not be recommended as main drink, you can use in puddings if you want him to get calcium or anything else from them. E.g. rice pudding, custard (birds powder is OK I think). I think its good to have a mix - probably better than the 100% cow that most children get! My DS nearly 6 now and still has mix of soya, oat, coconut, although for us soya is the main one.
