Cold Urticaria - Allergy to the cold.. Anyone else?

Had this condition for a while but today is the first time iv'e actually had a name for it.

Sounds really silly saying you allergic to the cold and I bet alot of people just laugh it off disbelieving.

This past cold snap was a nightmare for me. My hives came up really bad doing the school run's.

Guessing I should go to the dr's for a formal diagnosis. Not sure what they would do though? The hives seem to go again after about an hour once ive warmed up.

Anyone else any experience of this?

not quite but my mum's been saying for a while that she's "allergic " to the cold and that she's a lot less ill when it's a warm.

I think you should go to gp, if they diagnose you with this condition at least you'll know an can be given advice.

I have hyperacusis (over sensitive hearing) since I remember, but I was only diagnosed last year. can't do anything about it, but it's good to know I'm not crazy hearing sounds/noises that others can't hear or why I get irritated by them (and tired, stressed & ill).

I hope it can be treated.

Hi my son has this. He'd swell up, get hives particularly his hands, jaw line and forehead.

He now takes daily, strong antihistamines - citirizine and no longer suffers.

See your GP, arm yourself with info because most dont have much idea about allergies, let alone one as rare as cold urticaria.

You can get it under control, you dont have ro suffer.

I had this as a child, but it gradually went away as I went through puberty

I agree with a PP, go see the GP and have it properly diagnosed, they should be able to hel pyou manage it

my baby had this but fortunately has grown out of it, its a horrible condition and be wary of going swimming the sudden cold can be dangerous, go to gp get checked out.

My daughter has this too. She has been under a dermatologist for it. She also breaks out in hives if she gets too hot. She takes cetirizine daily which helps.

My 17yr old has just come home with swollen fingers, hives on her wrists, 2 hives on her cheekbones, and her legs, feet and thighs covered in huge itchy angry looking hives! We noticed over the last 2 months that her fingers swell and become itchy when its cold but this is the worst she's been. It's not even that cold today 9*c! She thinks it's definitely the cold but she was fine in the winter?
Anyone else have experiences?
Should I get her tested?
